Master of Education Programme (MEd)
 
 

MEd Selection Criteria

The academic and professional requirements for individuals to be selected for the Master of Education Programme are as follows:

  1. A Bachelor's degree with 55% marks or higher qualification which contains preferably some formal study of education (BA/BEd or BSc with Education);
  2. Minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience in a primary or secondary level school;
  3. Have a particular interest in school improvement at the primary or secondary level;
  4. Some previous experience in curriculum development, preferably in teacher education. In addition, they should demonstrate the potential to further improve their skills in curriculum development and teacher education;
  5. Be available for a secondment from their present post, between August 2007 and June 2009 on a full-time basis;
  6. Be sufficiently motivated and dedicated to cope with the intellectual challenge of a rigorous 24 month (two academic years) advanced graduate level study;
  7. Possess an acceptable degree of fluency in English. A certain level of proficiency in this language is necessary for admission, so that the participants can fully benefit from the courses that are conducted in English. An entrance test will be administered for all candidates. If their competence in English is somewhat below what is expected of them, then they would be required to achieve a reasonable competency in this language before the commencement of the course;
  8. Flexibility to work in a multicultural setting at AKU-IED;
  9. Be medically fit. A medical certificate from a certified medical practitioner must accompany the application for admission. Every course participant will also be expected to go through a medical check-up at Aga Khan University Hospital , Karachi on arrival at AKU-IED. Any person having a pre-existing ailment which is detrimental to participation in the MEd programme will not be registered.
